Coimbatore: Congress workers staged a protest in Pollachi against the two year conviction of Congress MP Rahul Gandhi in a defamation case by a Surat Court.

They raised slogans against the central government for witch hunting the Congress leader.

During an election rally in Karnataka before 2019 national polls Rahul Gandhi remarked “why all thieves have 'Modi as their surname'.

Subsequently, a defamation case was filed against Rahul Gandhi in a Surat court for his controversial remarks on Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

The court, which heard the case, yesterday, convicted Rahul Gandhi and sentenced him to two years imprisonment.



Congress workers across the country have been protesting against this verdict by a district court.



Congress(Coimbatore South district) workers led by District President Bhagavathy raised slogans against the central government in front of the central bus stand condemning the court verdict and Modi-government’s vendetta politics.
