Pollachi MP urges Union Commerce Minister to ban the import of coconut oil

“I have also sent representations to your ministry in this regard, to which I have not received any response yet” the MP stated.


Coimbatore: In a letter addressed to Union Minister of Commerce and Industry Piyush Goyal, Pollachi MP K. Shanmugasundaram has urged the Union Government to ban the imports of Coconut Oil.

The MP in his letter stated that “ I was elected as a Member of the Coconut Development Board, after which I had a meeting with the CEO of the board. I request you to organise a joint meeting with the Commerce Secretary Agriculture Secretary Finance Secretary, Coconut Development Board, DGFT, FSSAI, CACP and Customs so as to discuss the issue of ban on imports of Coconut Oil (Bulk/Packets/ or Any Other Form).

“I have also sent representations to your ministry in this regard, to which I have not received any response yet” the MP stated.

Regarding the recent elections, the MP also said: “two members of Lok Sabha have been declared as duly elected to serve as members of the Coconut Development Board subject to the provisions of the Coconut Development Board Act. 1979”.
