Milk dumped on the road in Coimbatore demanding hike in procurement price of milk

The milk producers, who were protesting near Alandarai in Coimbatore demanding an increase of the remaining Rs 7 in the procurement price of Aavin milk by the Tamil Nadu government, dumped the milk on the ground and registered their protest.

Coimbatore: Milk producers in Coimbatore district staged a protest near Alandarai by throwing milk on the ground, demanding a hike in the procurement price of Aavin milk.

Milk producers have been staging protests at various places demanding a hike in the procurement price of Aavin milk by the Tamil Nadu government. At present, cow's milk is being procured at Rs 35 and buffalo milk at Rs 44.

In this case, there was a demand for an increase of Rs 10. This was followed by protests demanding an increase of Rs 3 and the remaining Rs 7.

According to farmers, the procurement price should be increased as the current procurement price is less as compared to the cost of production of fodder and milk for cows.

Coimbatore District Milk Producers Co-operative Society and Coimbatore District Farmers' Association staged a protest in front of the office of the Primary Agricultural Cooperative Credit Society at Alandarai in Coimbatore today.

The protest not only demanded a hike in the price of milk, but also demanded a subsidy on cow feed and incentives.

In support of this demand, the protestors raised placards and raised slogans and poured milk on the ground to register their protest. More than 50 milk producers participated in the event.
