Four girl students of Municipal Urdu-medium middle school in Ooty faint after consuming large quantities of nutritional supplementary pills

Recently, Iron and other nutritional tablets were distributed to the children through the Health Department of the Government of Tamil Nadu under the guidance of a teacher in the school.



The Nilgiris: In a shocking incident, as many four students studying class 8 in Municipal Urdu- medium middle school in Ooty fainted in the classroom after allegedly consuming large quantities a nutritional supplementary pills.

The students were immediately rushed to the Coimbatore Medical College Hospital for treatment.

The Gandhi Nagar Urdu medium middle school is functioning in the Kandhal area of the Nilgiris district, which is run by the Ooty Municipal Administration and it has a strength of 249 students.

Recently, Iron and other nutritional tablets were distributed to the children through the Health Department of the Government of Tamil Nadu under the guidance of a teacher in the school.

It is said some of the students competed with each other in taking iron supplements and fainted due to overdosing.

On seeing this, the other girls informed the teachers, who immediately rescued the girls.

The girls who fell unconscious girls have been admitted to the emergency ward of the Government Hospital in Ooty and then transferred to the CMCH for further treatment by ambulance.

The four girls are said to have consumed more than 30 tablets in all. Doctors at the Government Hospital in Ooty said the condition of the four girls has improved and they are out of danger.



However, doctors in Ooty said that the efficacy of the tablet will be known only after 12 to 14 hours of taking it. The four girls have now been brought to the Coimbatore Government Hospital for further treatment.

Deputy Director of Public Health Balusamy said the nutritional tablets for children will be given to the students once a week after having lunch under the supervision of the teachers appointed for the same. We don't know how the girls got so many tablets all at once. An investigation is underway into the incident”.
