Kancheepuram district has been ranked first and Coimbatore district has been ranked third in the survey conducted on the sale of liquor in various districts in Tamilnadu.
Coimbatore: Coimbatore district has been ranked third in the sale of liquor, officials said.
At the state level, a survey was conducted on the sale of liquor in various districts. The results of the survey revealed that in Kancheepuram North Excise district, liquor bottles were being sold for an average of Rs 4.93 crore per day and in South Excise district it was Rs 4.47 crore.
At the Kancheepuram district level, liquor is being sold for Rs 9.40 crore per day. It is followed by Chennai which sells liquor for Rs 9.07 crore per day.
On an average, 5,092 boxes of Indian Made and Foreign Liquor (IMFL) and 2,654 beer boxes are being sold at Rs 4.54 crore per day in 166 liquor outlets in Coimbatore North Excise district.
There are 5,221 Boxes of Indian Made and Foreign Liquor and 2,090 beer boxes sold in 139 liquor outlets in South Excise district. Liquor is being sold to tasmac management for Rs 4.07 crore every day.
In Coimbatore district, 305 liquor shops generate a daily income of Rs 8.61 crore. It is followed by Tiruvallur, Tirupur and Salem districts. Usually, for the past few years, Tirupur district has been ranked second or third in the sale of liquor.
It has been revealed that the sale of liquor is declining due to the impact of production of baniyan companies and the loss of jobs of workers. In Tirupur, the daily sale of liquor stood at Rs 6.21 crore.
Last year, liquor was sold for more than Rs 8 crore. The sale of liquor is at its peak in various districts at the state level. There are only 159 liquor shops in Thanjavur district, where agriculture is concentrated.
Liquor is sold here for Rs 5.20 crore per day. It is noteworthy that despite having fewer shops, more liquor is being sold.
