Government employees quarters’ residents block roads in Dharapuram

Residents of Dharapuram in Tirupur district staged a road blockade demanding basic amenities in the government employees' quarters. Traffic on the Dharapuram-Udumalpet road was disrupted for an hour.

Tirupur: More than 50 families live in more than 80 houses in the tamil nadu housing board government employees' rented accommodation on Udumalai Road in Dharapuram.

Without providing basic amenities such as sewerage, drinking water, street lights, etc., in the residential area, the housing board is deducting thousands of rupees every month from the employees as rent on their salaries.

For the past 10 years, animals, including snakes and poisonous germs, have been roaming around in thorny bushes without maintenance. Due to this, children to adults in the area are finding it difficult to move outside at night.

It is said that the Erode Housing Board has not taken any action so far, despite repeated representations to the Housing Board since 2019 by the people of the area seeking a solution.

Dissatisfied with this, the residents staged a road blockade on Dharapuram Udumalpet Road demanding repair of the water borewell. Municipal president K Pappu Kannan, police inspector Manikandan and ward 24 councillor Umamaheswari Hariharan, municipal engineer and department officials reached the spot and held talks with the picketers.

Municipal chairman K Pappu Kannan said that the housing board's flats were completely under the control of the housing board. The area should be provided with the necessary basic amenities. They left it unmaintained properly.

This is the reason why there are so many problems in the area. Therefore, on behalf of the municipal administration, he assured that drinking water will be supplied to the people of the area without any hindrance.

Accepting this, the people abandoned the blockade and dispersed. Due to this sudden road blockade, there was a commotion on the Dharapuram-Udumalpet road for an hour.
