Amaravati dam storage dips to 63 feet as drought situation persists in catchment areas

The water level in Amaravati dam near Udumalpet in Tiruppur district stood at 63.78 feet against its full capacity of 90 feet. While the inflow into the dam is 43 cusecs outflow is maintained at 300 cusecs.


Tirupur: A total of 53,637 acres of land in Tiruppur and Karur districts are being irrigated by the Amaravathi Dam near Udumalpet in Tiruppur District.

Water is being supplied to 7,520 acres of land in Amaravathi Old Ayacut areas including Kallapuram, Ramakulam, Komaralingam, Kannadi puthur, Cholamadevi, Kaniyur, Kadathur and Karath Thozhuvu for the second season of paddy cultivation.



The water release to irrigated area Tirupur and Karur districts have been extended father till February 28.

Similarly, in the new Ayacut areas, irrigation in 25,250 acres in Udumalai, Madathukulam and Dharapuram taluks has been extended till February 28.



Even as the rainfall deficit has affected the inflow in the dam, the Western Ghats catchment areas have also witnessed a drought situations due to increasing heat. This resulted in poor inflow into the dam.

Resultantly, the storage level has suffered, and it has been falling in recent days.
