Folowing the head-on collision of the Government bus near Valparai, school and college students walked 2 km to reach Valparai.
Coimbatore: 40 Government buses ply from Valparai in Coimbatore district to Pollachi, Coimbatore, Tiruppur, Palani, Chalakudy, Mannargudi and other areas.
A Government bus left for Valparai from Vellaimalai Estate area on Tuesday morning with over 40 school and colelge students, as well as other passengers on board. Similarly, a Government bus from Valparai also left for the Cinchona Estate area. More than 10 passengers were travelling on the bus to the school teachers' estate area.
For the expansion of the road in the Koolangal river area, soil had been dug up on one side of the road.
Due to this, the buses collided head-on. It is also reported that the brakes of one of the old buses failed.
In the collision, the windshield of the bus was broken.
Passengers in both buses miraculously escaped.
Due to the accident, school and college students walked 2 kilometres to reach Valparai. The Valparai police, who reached the spot, are investigating the accident.
