Extortion racket: Persons impersonating as journalists extort money from bar owner near Tirupur

A video has surfaced on social media, in which some persons claiming to be journalists are seen threatening a bar owner and extorting money from them near Palladam.

Tirupur: Sundar hails from Mangalam near Palladam in the Tirupur district. He is running a bar attached to a TASMAC liquor shop in Mangalam.

In the meanwhile, some persons claiming themselves to be journalists have threatened the bar owner and extorted money from him.

Demanding the bar owner to pay Rs 100 per month the fake journalists said “You are illegally selling liquor bottles beyond the time fixed by the government, and so you need to pay us a bribe for not to report it to the authorities"

Sundar asked the people who spoke on the phone claiming to be journalists to come in person and asked them which newspaper they are a journalist in and show them their identity cards.

Claiming that they work for an RNI-registered online website they produced their identity card when they approached the bar owner.

A video of the two men receiving Rs 100 per head has gone viral on social media.

A search of the RNI numbers on the website of the identity cards has revealed that the RNI numbers of both newspapers were fake.

People have requested the authorities to take action against miscreants who have indulged in extorting money from the unwitting bar owner.
