Tamil Nadu Agricultural University Vice-Chancellor Dr.V. Geethalakshmi in her presidential address emphasized the various strategies and guidelines towards managing Forest Invasive Species taking into consideration the ecological, environmental and associated sociological implications.
Coimbatore: A two- day International workshop on “Management of Forest Invasive Species” was jointly organized by the State Planning Commission, Tamil Nadu Land Use Research Board, and Forest College and Research Institute, TNAU, Mettupalayam.
The second-day events started with tree planting by the Vice-Chairman of the State Planning Commission Dr.J. Jeyaranjan within the Forest College and Research Institute, Mettupalayam campus.
Then the delegates of the workshop visited the exhibition of value-added products made out of Forest Invasive Species.
In the technical sessions, detailed deliberations on thematic issues viz., value-addition and livelihood Opportunities and policy and legal issues were initiated.
The Panel discussion was chaired by the members of the State Planning Commission Professor M. Vijayabaskar and Professor Sultan Ahmed.
In the valedictory session, Dr S. Radhakrishnan, Professor (Forestry) welcomed the participants of the workshop.
