Forest department staff increase patrol to check wild elephant incursion in Udumalpet

The Forest department staff are keeping a close watch on the increase in the movement of wild elephants at the foothills of Udumalpet in Tirupur district.


Tirupur: The movement of wild elephants in the foothills of the hills near Udumalpet is on the rise.

Udumalai and Amaravathi forest ranges are located in the protected Western Ghats eco system near Udumalai in Tirupur district.

It is home to wild animals including elephants, tiger, leopard, bison and rare species of plants.

Wild life incursion is often reported when wild animals stray into foothills of the mountain in search of food and water in these areas.

Recently, the increased movement of elephants in the foothills is reported and in the last few days, as elephants have been flocking to the foothills of Kallapuram area in Udumalpet.



The herd of elephants often indulge in crop raiding and damage plantain and banana groves.

The forest department staff have taken up intensive patrolling in the foothills of the Western Ghats to avoid man- animal conflict.
