Consultant for Global Investors' Conference to be appointed soon - Minister Thangam Thennarasu

Minister for Industries Thangam Thennarasu has said that a consultant for the Global Investors' Summit to be held in Chennai on January 10 and 11 next year will be appointed soon.


Chennai: The Global Investors' Summit will be held in Chennai on January 10 and 11 next year. Speaking on the occasion, Tamil Nadu Minister for Industries Thangam Thennarasu said that a consultant for the conference will be appointed and the official announcement for the counsellor exam will be made soon.

He also said that the global investors' summit will be held with proper planning and there are a lot of sector-wise projects. Minister Thangam Thennarasu said that the global investors' conference will not be just an event to sign MoUs. In order to achieve the economic target of one trillion, which Tamil Nadu has set to achieve by 2030, He also said that he would like to sign more MoUs to ensure substantial investments.

This is the first global investors' meet during the DMK rule, the minister said. Earlier, the conference was held in 2015 and 2019 by the then AIADMK government. As far as the 2024 Global Investors' Summit is concerned, the Government of Tamil Nadu plans to focus more on msmes and emerging sectors, he said.

When it comes to attracting investment from big companies to our state, Minister Thangam Thennarasu has appealed to the MSMEs here to extend their due support at the same time.

The recent annual meeting of the World Economic Forum in Davos became the venue for the 2024 Global Investors Summit. Minister Thangam Thennarasu also said that he had met many new investors in it.

At the conference, he said that even during the covid pandemic, industrial growth in Tamil Nadu was able to sustain. Steps have been taken to ensure uninterrupted functioning of industries, he said. Minister Thangam Thennarasu quoted examples such as 'we have ensured that everyone in the industry is vaccinated on a priority basis' were cited.

During the meeting, the Tamil Nadu delegation met with Juvencio Maeztu, Deputy Executive Officer and Chief Accounts Officer of Ingka, the group which holds of IKEA.

At that time, the committee had said that it wanted to expand the IKEA in Coimbatore. Only the initial discussion in this regard took place, he said. Minister Thangam Thennarasu said that he would talk in detail soon about the furniture park in Thoothukudi. He also shared with them the emerging environment there and no decision has been taken so far on the expansion of IKEA in Coimbatore.

It is to be noted that the delegation led by Industries Minister Thangam Thennarasu, which met Chief Minister M K Stalin yesterday, apprised him of the meetings and discussions held by their team at the Davos meeting.
