Frost blankets Ooty in many places, as night time temperatures dip to zero degrees

Normal life of the people in various parts of Ooty in the Nilgiris district came to a standstill as the temperature dropped to 0 degrees in the wee hours today.



The Nilgiris: The Nilgiris district, which has the distinction of being the queen of the hills, is one of the districts situated on the Western Ghats. During the winter season, the temperatures dip and frost sets in many places.



At present, due to the winter season, heavy frost conditions were witnessed in Ooty and surrounding rural areas early this morning.



Ooty, which has been witnessing an increase in day time temperatures for the past one week, has been experiencing extremely cold conditions in the morning and night for the past two days.



Areas including Talagunda, Avalanche and Kandal near Ooty recorded a temperature of zero degree, while Government Botanical Garden recorded a temperature of 2.8 degrees Celsius.



The frost conditions blanketed vehicles parked in the area and on agricultural crops

Normal life was severely affected as people were unable to come out of their homes due to severe cold conditions.
