Woman petitions collector seeking remedy from Rs 70,000 power tariff bill for domestic usage

Shockingly enough, Hafiya, a resident of Ukkadam in Coimbatore, received an electricity bill of Rs 70,000. Hafia's family submitted a petition to the district collector seeking redressal of their grievance, in which an exorbitant amount was quoted.

Coimbatore: Hafiya a resident of Ukkadam, Karumbukkadai area was shocked when TANGEDCO officials visited her house to carry out an electrical reading for domestic usage and said the family has incurred Rs 70,000 towards electricity bill.

Shocked by this, Hafia complained to the concerned officials about the issue, following which the officials said that Rs. 40,000 will be adjusted and the remaining Rs 30,000 will have to be paid at the rate of Rs 6,000 per week.

Repeated appeals to the TANGEDCO officials fell on deaf ears, and Hafia finally decided to petition District collector seeking remedy.

Speaking to reporters Hafia said, "We used to get electricity bills ranging from Rs 200 to Rs 250. Last month, Rs. 70,000 was quoted as electricity bill, which shocked my family members. We use electrical appliances like TV fan only at night time.

Hafia appealed to the collector to intervene in this matter and to find out anomalies in power tariff billing for domestic usage.
