According to sources, efforts are on to set up a liquor shop in Selvapuram Colony near Karumathampatti where schools, churches and fair price shops are located.
The residents of the area, who have thronged District Collectorate with empty liquor bottles raised slogans and submitted a petition demanding to give up the move.
Balasubramaniam, Ward Councillor of Karumathampatti Municipality, said that the TASMAC shop which was already functioning in Selvapuram colony was causing various problems to the residents.
“While the said TASMAC shop had been shut down, efforts are underway to set up a new TASMAC shop again on the land owned by one Soundararajan,” he said.
If a new TASMAC shop is set up, the residents would stage a massive agitation,” the petitioners said.
