‘Goondas Act’ slapped on POCSO sex assault offender near Mettupalayam

The provisions of the Goondas Act was invoked against Ramkesh Kumar (42) on the orders of Collector Sameeran. The accused was earlier arrested under the POCSO act for sexually assaulting a 12-year-old girl near Mettupalayam in Coimbatore.


Coimbatore: The Karamadai police earlier arrested Ramesh Kumar (42), a native of Kemmarampalayam near Mettupalayam under the POCSO Act for allegedly sexually assaulting a 12-year-old minor girl.

Even as the case was being investigated, the Police confirmed that the arrested person was a serial sex offender. Coimbatore District Superintendent of Police Badri Narayanan recommended to District collector Sameeran to take action against him under the provisions of Goondas Act.

Based on this, Coimbatore District Collector Sameeran invoked the provisions of the Goondas Act against Ramesh Kumar (42)

The arrested person will not be able to avail bail for a year as he is arrested under Goondas act.

The District Superintendent of Police has warned that action under the Goondas Act will continue against those indulging in activities prejudicial to public peace.

So far, action has been taken against 38 persons, including five persons, under the Goondas Act and two under the National Security Act (NSA) in Coimbatore district, the Superintendent of Police said.
