Air passengers should not take fever-reducing medicines to escape COVID-19 testing - officials

Health department officials urge air passengers not to take fever-reducing medicines to escape covid-19 testing and urge the public to cooperate in the prevention of the disease.

Coimbatore: The Union Health Ministry has advised passengers coming from various foreign countries to be screened at airports across the country in a bid to contain the spread of covid-19. The order is being implemented by the respective state health department officials.

In this situation, Coimbatore airport is operating flights to two foreign countries, Sharjah and Singapore. On all days of the week to Singapore. Sharjah is operated five days a week.

The Sharjah flight will land in Coimbatore at 6.20 am and will take off again at 7 am. The flight from Singapore will land in Coimbatore at 7:45 pm and will leave for Singapore at 8.40 pm. These two flights usually carry between 160 and 170 passengers each time.

A medical team is working on behalf of the Health Department at the airport premises to prevent the spread of covid-19. Various equipment, including an automatic body heat testing machine, are used for testing.

It is said that some of those with fever are travelling on fever-reducing medicines and they are working on the airport premises with the intention of escaping the test.

According to health department officials, body temperature testing is considered important in preventive measures related to the spread of covid-19. Apart from this, other symptoms including cold, cough have also been advised to be monitored.

Currently, two per cent of passengers coming from abroad have been advised to get themselves tested. A few passengers regularly travel by taking fever-reducing medicines to cover it up even if they have been infected with the flu.

Such incidents were detected in the past when the spread of the infection increased. Their aim is to somehow escape from the tests being carried out on the airport premises.

However, after reaching home, the condition worsens further and they are then examined and admitted to the hospital. Similarly, people who take fever-reducing medicines and leave without getting tested are the main reasons for the spread of the disease in the community.

Therefore, every passenger coming from abroad should realise their responsibility and extend full cooperation to the measures taken to prevent the spread of the infection. If you are unwell, you should immediately inform the medical team.

There is no need to be afraid that all types of fever are a coronavirus infection. People's cooperation is very important for disease prevention.
