Police set trap for absconding suspects involved in chopping down of sandalwood tree near Thudiyalur in Coimbatore

Though locals chased miscreants who felled a sandalwood tree in Aishwarya Garden area next to Thudiyalur in Coimbatore, the men escaped but police have launched a man-hunt for them.



Coimbatore: Appanaickenpalayam-Aishwarya Garden is located in the 1st ward of the Coimbatore Corporation near Thudiyalur.

On Tuesday night, some miscreants reportedly had cut down a sandalwood tree in a private compound and were chopping it down. On hearing the noise, people in the neighbourhood rushed to nab the miscreants who were trying to take away the sandalwood tree that had been cut down. The miscreants fled leaving behind the chopped tree.

On hearing about the incident, Corporator Karpagam Rajasekharan and the people in the area rushed to the spot and informed the Police and the Forest Department. The police officials were told that the sandalwood trees were being cut down and smuggled in Appanaickenpalayam, Paneer Madai, Vadamadurai and NGGO Colony areas.

People have also complained of frequent incidents of theft of empty gas cylinders from house compounds in the area. They also demanded that the police in these areas should step up night patrolling and take appropriate action to nab such people who are involved in criminal activities.
