Health Ministry busts fake and mischievous WhatsApp viral post on Covid XBB sub-variant

Even as the Covid scare is high in China, a dubious WhatsApp post doing rounds in India is creating panic among social media users by warning that the XBB sub-variant of Omicron is deadlier than the Delta variant.

Coimbatore: Even as the Covid scare is high in China, a dubious WhatsApp post doing rounds is creating panic among social media users by warning that the XBB sub variant of Omicron is deadlier than Delta.

However, the Union Health ministry has come out with a clarification and busted the false claim, calling it fake and misleading to the core. It is common knowledge, that the Indian Government has instructed the states to step up vigil and enforce Covid- appropriate behavior among the general population due to new surge of Covid cases witnessed in China and other countries.

However, the mischief mongers who are active on social media have misled the public by posting false information about the recent surge of Covid cases.

The highly mischievous and misleading WhatsApp message dubiously claims that the newly discovered XBB sub-variant of Omicron is five times more virulent, which is false and misleading.

The fake WhatsApp posting also dubiously claims that it has a higher mortality rate than the Delta variant. It also warns that its symptoms are significantly different from other sub-variants.

But such false information are discounted by the Union Health Ministry as misleading.
