Maruthamalai Temple authorities issue clarification as to why old articles were disposed in a haphazard manner

After a video of Maruthamalai temple workers rolling down gifts and other articles from the steps of the Rajagopuram went viral on social media, devotees have questioned the mode of disposal of the item in a haphazard manner.


Coimbatore: A viral video depicting the callous disposal of some articles given by devotees from the stairs of Rajagopuram during the cleanliness drive at the Maruthamalai temple in Coimbatore had gone viral on social media, and it went on to raise pertinent questions about the haphazard manner in which they were disposed.

In this context, the temple authorities had clarified as to why the old articles which were given to the temple were disposed of in such a careless manner.

The video footage which had emerged depticted employees throwing down some articles including red carpet, gunny bags and some other old articles from the stairs and taking them down from there.

The video was captured by a devotee on his mobile phone and shared on social media, which went viral..

According to the management of the Marudhamalai temple, "as the cleaning work was going on to remove the old articles from the temple. They were disposed of and cleaned as mosquitoes and insects may breed in the waste articles which was gathering dust".

"At that time, all the heavy objects were taken down the stairs. The temple workers had walked up and down more than 15 times In this case, only very old items like sacks and clothes were rolled down the stairs" the temple authorities said.

"Instead of making a full video of what had happened, some misinformation was spread due to the video" The temple authoriites claimed.
