Police present free helmets at Road Safety Awareness Program in Ooty

At the program held in Ooty which was presided by the Nilgiris District Collector, S P Amrith, prizes were awarded to the winners of competitions conducted among school students on Road Safety.



The Nilgiris: Free helmets were distributed at a Road Safety Awareness program organised by the police in the Nilgiris district.



The District Collector, S P Amrith also encouraged the students who won in various competitions by awarding them with prizes.

A Road Safety Awareness program was held on behalf of the police at Charing Cross in Ooty. At a function presided over by the Nilgiris District Collector, S P Amrith, free helmets were presented to 30 people.



Earlier, prizes were distributed to school students who won in the essay competition, painting competition, elocution competition, signature competition on Road Safety, conducted among school students.



Speaking on Road Safety, Collector S P Amrith said, "The objective of the Road Safety Week festival is to ensure that motorists drive without accidents. Two-wheeler riders must wear helmets.

Motorists must ride at a safe speed, reducing the brightness of their vehicle's headlights so as not to hamper the vehicle coming in the opposite direction at night, allowing vehicles to pass, and being careful in places while driving around bends, on narrow roads, bridges, and near hospitals and schools. Also, it is very important to follow traffic signals and not use a cell phone while driving. Wearing seatbelts while in four-wheelers can prevent not only fatalities but also accidents."

The District Superintendent of Police, Ashish Rawat, Project Director Special Area Development Project, Dr. Monika Rana, TANTEA General Manager Jayaraj, Wellington Palayavari Chief Executive Officer Ali, District Revenue Officer Keerthi Priyadarshini, Additional Superintendent of Police, Mohan Navas, Ooty Revenue Divisional Officer Duraisamy, Regional Transport Officer Thyagarajan, Ooty Deputy Superintendent of Police Maheshwaran, Ooty Tahsildar Rajasekharan and other Government officials and public were also present at the event, along with a large number of students and police officials.
