City youth duped of Rs.7.5 lakh in online job racket, police warn against falling prey to online fraudsters

Anbazhagan, a youth from Vellalore in Coimbatore, had lost Rs.7.5 lakh online, to part time job racketeers, who promised hefty amounts of money for watching and liking videos on the internet. The police have warned people not to fall prey to such online scamsters.



Coimbatore: In what is recurring cases of online scams, which came to light in recent days, Anbazhagan, a youth of Vellalore has come to be yet another gullible youth who has fallen to the scamsters lurking in the internet.

The youth who had wanted take up part-time work searched online and stumbled upon a link in Facebook, which proved his undoing.

While, the clicked link led to to WhatsApp number which again directed him to call a number in Telegram. Accordingly, Anbazhagan had called the number. and the respondent identified himself as one Luther Singh.

Anbazhagan was assigned a task to like a video in YouTube and share it subsequently. He was offered a pay Rs.50 for watching a video.When Anbazhagan finished seven tasks he was offered Rs.350 and he also received the money in his bank account.

But when additional tasks were given, Anbazhagan had been asked to invest to carry out the task, lined up for him.

Having fallen into the trap laid by the online fraudsters Anbazhagan allegedly paid Rs.7,58,500 in three instalments and this happened between November 22 to December 2, 2022.

Shocking enough, Anbazhagan who had waited in vain for his pay out couldn't with draw any even after completing the task. His account with the dubious company was blocked making him unable to do any transaction.

Realizing that he had been cheated, Anbazhagan had lodged a complaint with the City Cyber Crime police.

The police who have registered a case are investigating the online fraud in which the city youth had been duped again.

The Coimbatore City Police has warned the general public not to fall prey to such dubious online operators, who take gullible youth for a ride and swindle their money.

The Police further said that the youth should not be fooled by the attractive advertisements being given online, promising part time work and hefty amounts of money to complete simple tasks.
