The Malumichampatti Electricity Board foreman Shankar Ganesh and Junior Electrical Engineer Subramani were arrested by the DVAC for allegedly accepting a bribe of Rs. 5,000 for an electricity connection.
Coimbatore: Karthikeyan (28), a native of Podanur in Coimbatore was constructing a new house at MGP Nagar in Malumichampatti. He had applied online on September 5 to get a temporary electricity connection for the same.

Having paid Rs. 2,828 on the website for the electricity connection, Karthikeyan asked Subramanian (50), a junior electrical engineer who was at the Electricity Board office in Malumichampatti, about the status of the electricity connection for his house. Subramanian allegedly demanded a bribe of Rs.7000 to provide the electricity connection.
Karthikeyan pleaded with Subramanian that he could not afford to pay bribes but Subramanian reportedly demanded Rs. 5,000 for the electricity connection work to be completed for Karthikeyan’s home since all electricity connections’ status has been uploaded on the website as completed.
Thereafter, Karthikeyan lodged a complaint with the DVAC regarding the bribe being demanded by the EB employee for an electricity connection. On the basis of the complaint, DVAC officials gave Karthikeyan a sum of Rs. 5,000 to hand over to Subramanian. On Thursday morning, Karthik went to the Malumichampatti Electricity Board office as usual and informed Subramanian that he would pay the bribe of Rs. 5000. Shankar Ganesh, a foreman who works in the office was sent by Subramanian to collect the bribe money.
Following this, DVAC officials who were in hiding at the EB office caught Shankar Ganesh red-handed when he accepted the bribe from Karthikeyan.

Following this, a police team led by Additional SP Divya questioned Shankar Ganesh and Junior Electrical Engineer Subramanian at the EB office in Malumichampatti.

During the investigation, it was established that the duo had demanded a bribe from Karthikeyan to provide electricity connection. Following this, the police arrested both men and produced them before the court.
