Man arrested in Coimbatore for duping taxi driver of Rs. 2.5 lakh on pretext of getting him contract in Indian Oil Corporation

Coimbatore: Kathiravan, the taxi driver had ferried Francis Xavier Selvaraj, a resident of Singanallur for the past few days who told him that he was working as a manager with The Indian Oil Corporation and would get him a contract to drive a rental car in his company if Kathiravan could pay him Rs. 2.5 lakh.


Coimbatore: Kathiravan hails from Kannammal Nagar in Kavundampalayam and works in a private company in Coimbatore as a taxi driver. Francis Xavier Selvaraj, a resident of Singanallur who had travelled in the taxi for the past few days told Kathiravan that he was working as a manager with The Indian Oil Corporation and that he would get him a contract to drive a rental car in his company if Kathiravan could pay him Rs. 2.5 lakh.

Trusting Xavier, Kathiravan handed over Rs. 1 lakh as advance to him on November 2 and Xavier reportedly made note of the advance amount on a document to show Kathiravan as receipt for taking the money. The next day, Xavier again reportedly took Rs 1.5 lakh from Kathiravan. Thereafter, Kathiravan could not contact Xavier since the cell phone had been reportedly switched off.

On Tuesday morning, when Kathiravan was passing through Lakshmi Mills, he saw Xavier standing near Sungam. Xavier tried to escape from the spot but Kathiravan immediately caught hold of him and handed him over to the Race Course police. Following this, the police registered a case against Xavier and are interrogating him.
