Tension prevailed in Nadukani area near Gudalur due to a clash between the two sides over the removal of encroachment of the stream.
The Nilgiris: The stream in Nadukani area near Gudalur has been encroached upon. This increases the risk of flooding during the rainy season. Moreover, during the rainy season, it is customary to flood the habitations and affect the livelihood of the people.
To rectify this, the district administration took the decision to remove encroachments in the area and widen the stream.
People along the stream protested when the district administration started the work and acted on it. This led to a heated argument between the two parties and there was a lot of commotion in the area.
Taking note of the incident, the district administration temporarily stopped the work of widening the stream.
Later, a large number of policemen were called in the area and talks were held with both sides in the presence of police and revenue officials.
In the talks, both sides agreed to remove poromboke encroachment in the stream area.
The survey was then carried out in the disputed area in the presence of officials. The encroachments on both sides of the river have been removed and widening work is continuing.
