Met. Dept. issues red alert in Nilgiris even as heavy rains lash district

Nilgirs district has been experiencing heavy rains in the past hour, with Gudalur and Kotagiri also experiencing severe cold conditions, affecting normal life.


Nilgiris: Even as Tamil Nadu has been experiencing widespread rains due to the strengthening of the depression over the Bay of Bengal, heavy rains lashed Nilgiris district in the past hour especially in Ooty, Gudalur and Kotagiri.



Ooty's surrounding areas like Finger Post, Thalaikundha, Masinagudi, Ekuni and Kalhatti experienced heavy rains and intense cold conditions which affected normal life.



The Meteorological Department had earlier issued a red alert for Saturday warning of very heavy rains in the Nilgiris district.
