Coimbatore Car Blast: UAPA invoked against 5 people - City Police Commissioner Balakrishnan

A case has been registered against five persons under sections of conspiracy, causing enmity between two groups and the UAPA Act. All the five will be produced in court. City Police Commissioner K Balakrishnan said that the full information will be available after the forensic report is received.


Coimbatore: A Maruti car exploded in front of Kottai Easwaran temple near Ukkadam in Coimbatore in the wee hours of October 23. The deceased has been identified as Jamesha Mubin, a resident of Ukkadam.

The Ukkadam police have arrested five persons - Mohammed Talka Mohammed Azharuddin, Mohammed Riyaz, Feroz Ismail and Mohammad Nawaz Ismail - from Ukkadam in connection with the case.

Coimbatore City Police Commissioner Balakrishnan told reporters in this regard. "A man named Jamesha Mubin died of burn injuries after a cylinder exploded in his car in Ukkadam area of Coimbatore. A case has been registered at ukkadam police station in this regard and an investigation is underway. The area has been brought under the control of the police and all the investigations are going on in a scientific manner by preserving the evidence.

"We have ascertained the identity of the deceased within 12 hours. The car that exploded has been sold to 10 people and they have been questioned. "We have arrested five persons last night in connection with the incident. They have been booked under the UAPA (Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA).

Five people have also been booked under sections of conspiracy, causing enmity between two groups and the UAPA. All the five will be produced in court.

We have also questioned more than 20 people in connection with the incident. The police department has taken immediate action by interrogating the suspects, raiding their homes and monitoring them.

According to the investigation so far, when Mubin arrived in the car, the cylinder may have exploded when he tried to escape as there was a police beat in the area. "We are continuously examining the cctv footage scanned.

Steps have also been taken to celebrate Diwali so that there is no law and order problem. An intensive investigation is underway to find out who else is involved in the incident.

The deceased Mubin has already been arrested.He has been to Kerala. We are investigating why he went there. There is a lot of information going on in terms of ages. After the forensic report arrives, full information will be available.

The NIA has questioned a few of those arrested. Two cylinders and three cans of drums were taken away from Mubin's house in the car. "We have sent a forensic report on what materials were in it.

Three people from his house have helped lift the cylinder. One has coordinated. One of them has prepared the car. Additional security has been provided in Coimbatore city in connection with the incident. All angles are being investigated, said Coimbatore City Police Commissioner Balakrishnan.
