Coimbatore City Police permits city's business establishments to operate till 1 am during Diwali; Special buses also deployed

The Coimbatore City Police held a meeting with office bearers of All Traders Association in Coimbatore City and Coimbatore City Textile Traders Association and then decided that all business establishments in Coimbatore city can function till Diwali upto 1 am. Special buses will also be operated to all parts of Coimbatore city on behalf of The Tamil Nadu State Transport Corporation.


Coimbatore: Even as the city buzzes with shopping activity as Diwali approaches, various textile shops, jewellery shops and other shopping malls in Coimbatore city are witnessing a heavy rush of shoppers.

In order to avoid crowding and to ensure that those working in Government and private offices can shop after working hours, the Coimbatore City Police which was mulling if the solution would be to extend the time of shops being open to facilitate the public to shop at night and buy items for Diwali. Thereafter, the Coimbatore City Police held a meeting with the office bearers of All Traders Association in Coimbatore City and Coimbatore City Textile Traders Association.

As per the decision taken at the meeting, all business establishments in Coimbatore city can function till Diwali upto 1 am. It was also decided at the meeting that special buses will be operated to all parts of Coimbatore city on behalf of The Tamil Nadu State Transport Corporation to facilitate the business of shops and establishments, as well as aid easy shopping for the public.

On Monday night, Coimbatore City Police Commissioner Balakrishnan inspected the surveillance work and crowding in the market areas. Now, 750 police personnel have been deployed on behalf of the police to ensure that people celebrate Diwali in a safe manner. The Police Commissioner had assured that arrangements would be made for more transport services and extra time for shops to function at night.
