Devotees from not only Coimbatore and Pollachi regions but also from the neighboring districts of Tirupur came to the temple from the early morning on the occasion of Adi Krithikai, carrying ‘Palkudam’ and ‘kavadi’ in a procession.
Coimbatore: Adi Krithigai in the Tamil month of Adi is celebrated in Murugan temples. The Aadi Krithikai ceremony took place today at Maruthamalai Subramanya Swamy Temple, which is celebrated by the devotees as the 7th house of Hindu deity, Murugan.
The festival started today at 6 am with Gau Pooja. At 6.30 p.m., Abhishekam was performed with 16 types of fluids including milk, paneer, javvadu and sandalwood for Moolavar Subramania Swamy.
After that ‘Swami’ was decorated with special decorations and Maha Deeparathanai was held. Kala Sandhi Puja was held at 9 am. Later, Maruthamalai Subramania Swami Valli along with Deivanai appeared to the devotees in the front hall in a golden peacock vehicle.
At 12 noon, ‘Swami Valli & Deivanai’ strolled to Thiruveedi in a white elephant vehicle. At 4 p.m. there was a special Balabhishekam for the Moolah, at 5 p.m. Lord Muruga’s idol was taken on a procession in a Golden Peacock vehicle as Valli-Devanai, at 5.30 p.m. Sayaratsai Puja, Maha Deeparathanai at 6 p.m. The ‘Swami’ comes out in Thangaratham, at 7 p.m. Rakala Abhishekam, Pooja and Deeparathana are held.

Devotees wait in long queues on the hill and foothills to have darshan of the deity. As the crowd increased, two-wheelers and four-wheelers were allowed up once an hour from the base.
