Before and After: 5 easy ways to upgrade a bathroom

From a resale perspective, a bathroom makeover is one of the best investments to increase the value of your home

Fun fact: From a resale perspective, a bathroom makeover is one of the best investments to increase the value of your home. While a gut reno may be required for some extreme cases, a few simple hacks will elevate any bathroom - no sledgehammer needed. Don’t just take our word for it - see how we gave a generic white space some personality in five easy steps. Just pick a vibe (ours was “industrial chic respite”) - and try this at home!

1. Accent Wall: Graphic wallpaper is all the rage, but a busy pattern in a small bathroom can be dizzying. We recommend an accent wall instead. It allows you to indulge in a bit of print without overwhelming the space. This Speckled Wallpaper in Cloud Blue by Rebecca Atwood adds dimension - and a dash of playfulness - to an otherwise contemporary look.

2. Quality Bath Linens: The only reason to leave a warm bath is a good Towel. Our Classic Towels are soft, absorbent and super durable for that. But we’ve also got Turkish Towels to add a spa-like feel to your space. Lightweight and versatile, these Towels were designed to complement our entire Bath assortment -  from the Shower Curtains to the Hand-knit Rugs to the Robes.

3. Personal Accessories: So…what do you want to look at every day in here? Rather than clutter your bathroom with run-of-the-mill tchotchkes, add a few meaningful items that personalize the space. Remember, your bathroom should be an extension of the rest of your home. The handmade soap, carafe and cup set, bath salt dish and teak stool here were all handmade by artisans and consistent with the owner’s love of light wood and one-of-a-kind pieces.

4. Good Lighting: Replacing outdated chrome light fixtures completely transformed the mood of this space. The minimalist Ellerbe Sconce from Schoolhouse Electric & Supply Co. reinforced the industrial chic theme. Soft light from the globe shape of the sconces hits this mirror just right, making everyone look like a movie star ready for their close up. Sometimes the simplest update can make the biggest difference!

5. Space Savers: Focus on the details that contribute to both form and function. You don’t need to spend a lot to refresh your bathroom, but you should invest in items that do double duty. Get a nice mirror that will open up the room. Display your Towels on elegant rings - or a sleek ladder to maximize vertical space! Use a bathtub caddy to organize your bathing essentials. Think of your bathroom presentation as a gift to yourself - something you’ll appreciate every day.
