SDTU demands identity cards for roadside vendors

Members of the Social Democratic Trade Union held a protest demanding national identity card for the roadside vendors. Around 30 members of the SDTU held a demonstration in front of the South Taluk Office in the city today.

According to the protesters, no steps were taken despite the central government's orders to issue identity cards to the roadside vendors. In his keynote address, U.B. Ajith Rahman, the General Secretary of the SDTU, said that there are thousands of roadside merchants in the town.

They are often bullied by government officials to vacate the place of trade. He insisted that the state government should take necessary measures to issue identity cards for the roadside vendors.
