Tamil Nadu government hikes free marriage assistance to couples from Rs.15,000 to Rs.50000 for temple marriages

The Government has carefully examined the proposal of the Commissioner of Hindu Religious and Charitable Endowments Department and announced the hike in marriage assistance.


Coimbatore: Tamil Nadu government has announced that the marriage assistance which would be conducted under the aegis of HR&CE department would be raised from Rs.15,000 to 50,000 for each couple.

About 500 couples in 20 zones will be solemnized free marriage and 25 poor and needy couples in a Joint Commissioner's Zone will be selected every year.

According to the Commissioner of Hindu Religious and Charitable Endowments Department, on behalf of the temples belonging to Chennai-1 and Chennai-2 Joint Commissioner's Zones, free marriages for 31 couples in the presence of the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu were held and distributed ‘seer varisai’.

In addition, 217 couples in 20 Joint Commissioner's Zones, were also married and distributed marriage ‘seer varisai’.

The Government has carefully examined the proposal of the Commissioner of Hindu Religious and Charitable Endowments Department and announced the hike in marriage assistance.

After considering the same, the Government has decided to increase the sanctioned cost of free marriage in the temples from Rs.20.000 to Rs.50,000, as the marriage is solely conducted using the beneficiaries' funds from financially sound temples.
