Coimbatore City Municipal Corporation Commissioner, M Prathap, has announced a ban on the sale of meat on Thiruvalluvar Day.
Coimbatore: The Coimbatore City Municipal Corporation Commissioner, M Prathap has ordered that mutton, beef, chicken and pork shops should not be opened in areas under Corporation limits on January 16 on account of Thiruvalluvar Day.
In a statement, the CCMC Commissioner said, "Thiruvalluvar Day will be celebrated on January 16 and on that day, the Tamil Nadu Government has banned the slaughter of goats, cows and poultry, as well as the sale of meat. Therefore, mutton, beef, chicken and pork shops should not be opened in areas under theCoimbatore Corporation.
Similarly, meat shops run by the Corporation in Ukkadam, Sakthi Road, Podanur and Thudiyalur areas will also have to down shutters. Appropriate action will be taken by the Corporation authorities against those violating this order."
