Police alert public on scams by getting OTP for Covid-19 vaccination: Asks public not to reveal any information over phone
Coimbatore: The third phase of COVID - 19 vaccination drive has started in India from May 1 and all citizens aged 18 years and above can register for vaccination on http://cowin.gov.in , Aarogya Setu App or UMANG App . It is found that some cybercriminals are trying to collect the personal and financial details of users, in the disguise of Vaccine registration.
Tactics of Cyber Criminals:
• Cyber criminals are calling the people and claiming that they are calling for Vaccine registration and are trying to collect details such as Aadhar number, bank account number, credit / debit card details, etc.,
• They may also call the citizens and ask for the OTP delivered to their phones, claiming that the OTP is required for vaccine registration.
• Some fraudsters are trying to scam people by offering to sell medicine such as Remdesivir at a cheaper price.
Suggested precautions
• COVID - 19 vaccination registration can only be done on http://cowin.gov.in, Aarogya Setu App or UMANG App.
• Please note that no one will ask for your details over the phone for vaccine registration.
• Do not give your personal information to any websites / apps claiming to provide COVID - 19 vaccine registration other than http://cowin.gov.in, Aarogya Setu App or UMANG App.
• Don't share your financial details online or over the phone for vaccine registration.
• If someone has contacted you asking for your personal details for vaccine registration, report the same on https://cybercrime.gov.in/
