Coimbatore: In Coimbatore, on the banks of the Noyyal river, people have been banned from worshiping to their ancestors this coming Adi Ammavasai.
The Adi Ammavasai or new moon in the month of Adi, is considered as the most auspicious day to pay homage to the ancestors and to fast in remembrance of them.
With more than 1,600 corona infections spreading rapidly in Coimbatore, the temple administration has said that ancestors will not be allowed to pay obeisance at the Perur Patteeswarar temple on July 20, the coming new moon.
Every year in Coimbatore, on the new moon day in the month of Adi, thousands of people from different parts of the district gather at the Perur Padithurai to pay their respects to relatives who died and leave 'tharbhanai' for worship.
However, due to the corona infection this year, the temple administration has announced that worshipers will not be allowed to offer prayers to their ancestors in the area around the Amman Thoppu area, river bed and Ganesha temple on Friday at the Patteeswarar temple in Perur, on the forthcoming Adi Amavasya.
