Coimbatore: Ahead of New Year's eve, the Coimbatore City police have issued strict warnings to prevent untoward incidents, especially those who drink and drive will be taken to task, the police said in a statement.

"Those indulging in drunken driving, speeding and causing public nuisance like teasing will be held. CCTV cameras have been installed at all important locations", the statement said.

Preventive measures will be taken on New Year's Eve to prevent accidents, prevent harassing, prevent crimes and drunken driving.
Three-level security will be in place at Avinashi Road, Race Course, Gandhipuram, RS Puram, Pollachi main Road and Palakkad Road.
Accordingly, 44 two-wheeler patrol vehicles, 26 four-wheeler patrols, 400 Deputy Commissioners Of Police, 80 armed guards, 80 special guards will be on duty from 6 PM of Decemeber 31 to 4 AM of January 1, 2020. And, on January, 1, a total of 1500 guards will be deployed for security at bus stations, airports, railway stations, shops and places of worship.
25 checkpoints at Avinashi road and three check points on Race Course will be formed to keep a vigil on rash driving and drunken driving. NGOs will also be engaged at 11 check posts which will be equipped with tent, water, chairs, sound systems and lights.
Central barricades will be open on Avinashi Road at four places: 1) Anna Statue Junction, Lakshmi Mill Junction, 3) VK Road Meeting, 4) Chitra Junction. Elsewhere, Barricades will be completely sealed.
To avoid accidents, all entry and exit points at bridges will be blocked on the New Year's Eve. Therefore, the public are asked to avoid taking the bridges during New Year's Eve.
Firefighters and ambulance will be stationed at all major road intersections. Additional security arrangements have been made at the Government Medical College Hospital, Coimbatore.
The public are requested to cooperate with the police and welcome the New Year with great pomp, the city police said.
