Coimbatore: To strengthen the defence ecosystem in Coimbatore, Kumaraguru Institutions is conducting 'Coimbatore Defence Conclave – 2022' on Wednesday, July 27 at the Swami Vivekananda Seminar Hall, Kumaraguru Institutions, Coimbatore.
The event is planned on the 7th memorial day of the former President of India Dr. A P J Abdul Kalam on the theme 'Defence Indigenisation Requirements, Opportunities and Industry Capabilities.'
A new M.Tech postgraduate program in Defence Technology is also scheduled to be launched on the same day, besides the Coimbatore Regional Centre of the Aerospace Industry Development Association of Tamil Nadu (AIDAT).
Dr. S Christopher, the Chairman of AIDAT & Ex-Chairman of DRDO, Dr. S Venugopal, former Director, Aeronautical Development Establishment (ADE) and B Krishnamoorthy, IOFS, Additional Secretary & Project Director, TIDCO and many renowned speakers from Defence Services, DPSUs and Defence Industries will highlight the indigenisation requirements of Defence Services, DRDO and DPSUs, infrastructure requirements for industries to innovate, develop and test the products needed for Defence, as well as outline a viable road map toward achieving the national mission on 'Self-Reliance in Defence.'
C Vasantharaj, Director, Kumaraguru Centre for Industrial Research and Innovation (KC.IRI) stated that any start-ups, MSMEs, industries and entrepreneurs interested in entering Defence R&D and Production can attend the event to have a clear understanding of the business opportunities in the Defence Sector in Coimbatore.
After the Tamil Nadu Government’s Aerospace and Defence Industry Policy in 2019, the total committed investments have crossed Rs. 10,000 crore. The discussion is on to set up a joint venture between Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) and Tamil Nadu Industrial Development Corporation (TIDCO) for manufacturing Advanced Medium Combat Aircraft (AMCA) and an Indian Multi-Role Helicopter (IMRH) facility at Sulur in Coimbatore, as part of the Defence Corridor. Many defence PSUs and large private industries will be a part of this corridor.
As part of the ecosystem, the plan is to build common facility centres in Coimbatore for manufacturing and testing of defence components and systems.
