Final year B.Com student of Coimbatore Sri Ramakrishna College of Arts and Science, K. Sathishkumar, has been selected to participate in the 'Target Olympic Podium' scheme for young sportspersons by the Government of India.
Coimbatore: Final year B.Com student of Coimbatore Sri Ramakrishna College of Arts and Science, K. Sathishkumar, has been selected to participate in the 'Target Olympic Podium' scheme for young sports persons by the Government of India.
He was selected as one of the top 250 players in the list of selected players and one of the two badminton players from Tamil Nadu. The sports persons who have been selected for this scheme will be trained by the Sports Authority of India and have the opportunity to train better for the Olympics. Further they will also be provided with monetary incentives by the Government of India.
He has been selected on the basis of his achievements in sports during the previous year.He has played in the Asian games. He has represented India in the Badminton World Junior Championships at Kazan, Russia and won a bronze medal in an International event held in Korea.
He also topped the national ranking in the singles category at the All India Junior Ranking Badminton Championship held in Bangalore last year.
"My goal is to make the country and college proud by taking part in the 2024 Olympics to be held at Paris and the 2028 Olympics to be held in Los Angeles on behalf of the Indian nation", he said.
