Coimbatore: The 55th edition of All India Basketball Tournament for 'PSG Trophy' kicked off at the PSG Tech Indoor Sports complex here on Friday.
Coimbatore: The 55th edition of All India Basketball Tournament for 'PSG Trophy' kicked off at the PSG Tech Indoor Sports complex here on Friday.
Eight top teams across India are taking part in the five day tournament being organized by PSG sports club. G. Srinivasan, Managing Director of Srinivasan Associates Pvt Ltd was the chief guest and inaugurated the tournament.
In the first match of the opening day, Indian Navy started with a thumping 91-81 victory over Indian bank. In the first quarter, the Navy team started a bit slow conceding 19 points lead to Indian bank. However, the quick four 2 shooters from Mahipal Singh helped them bounce back in the game.
At the end of the second quarter, team Navy kept scoring high and got closer to Indian bank with 41-47. The score board continued to tick in the third quarter with Gurwinder scoring 4 three pointer to increase their points to 66, while the Indian bank were 68.
The final quarter of the match got more interesting, as both the teams gave a thought fight and indulged in scoring points. Lalit was the star of the final quater, as he scored three 3 points, paving way to their victory. At the final whistle from the referee, Navy team were 10 points ahead of Indian bank.
