Apple wins patent on bending iPhone

It wasn’t long ago when Apple iPhone’s bendgate issue caught everyone’s attention; the iPhone 6 Plus was bending under moderate temperature causing damage to its innards. And now we have news about the company filing patent for a technology that would allow iPhones to bend.

Apple has already faced rejection twice for the foldable or bendable display. But it seems that the company has been granted the patent for the technology it has been working on since 2013.

The patent reveals the technical details that explain how the foldable display will function. The technology would be based on conductive carbon nanotube structures that are flexible and can resist to cracks and strong pressure.

Ceramic could one of the materials to be used in the production of this new device. The company has already forayed in this field with the new Apple Watch Series 2 that has a version entirely build with ceramic.

Well it’s worth noting that the patent doesn’t always make its way to the production, but it wouldn’t come as a shock if we get a bendable iPhone in the near future since Apple is looking out for ways to stay in competition with other Android smartphone makers.

If the rumours are to be believed, the next iPhone will witness a huge design overhaul, as the company celebrates the 10th anniversary of the iPhone. Rumours also suggest that the next iPhone will feature a new glass-based bezel-less design. All the front-facing parts will be integrated into the screen, including the Home button and the fingerprint sensor.

It will be interesting to see when Apple brings its iPhone adopting the bendable display technology.
