Unaccounted cash seizure goes up to Rs. 8.49 lakh

The district election officials have thus far - since the imposition of the model code of conduct on March 4 - seized Rs. 8.49 lakh unaccounted cash. A release from the district administration said that the officials had also removed hoardings, graffiti and banners in public places and also on private walls. The release also asks public to report poll violations to the control room.

The District Collector Archana Patnaik has nominated the following officers to whom those whose cash had been seized could report to for taking the money back, says a release from the district administration.

The head of the team of officers is T. Murugan, Project Director, District Rural Development Agency. The co-ordinating officer is K. Ravichandran, Co-ordinating Officer, Election Expenditure and PA-Accounts, and the member of the team is S. Venkatesan, District Treasury Officer.

They will ascertain if the seized cash was for election and if not, they will return the same, the release adds.

Cash seized in Ooty

District election officials in the Nilgiris on Friday seized Rs.6.62 lakh without proper documents. A release from the district administration said that the officials seized Rs. 2.53 lakh at two locations in the Udhagamandalam Assembly constituency and the rest in the Coonoor Assembly constituency. Thus far the officials had seized Rs. 56.60 lakh.
