Bomb threat at mall turns out to be hoax

There was brief chaos at Fun Republic Mall on Avinashi Road at Peelamedu on Monday night after the city police received a bomb threat call. A team of bomb detection and disposal squad (BDDS) conducted a check in the parking lot of the mall. A few sniffer dogs were also brought to the mall and finally police announced that it was a hoax threat.

According to police, four youths who were standing in front of the mall were chatting about a bomb planted in the mall's parking lot which would go off at any moment. A city-based lawyer who had over-heard their conversation immediately alerted the police control room.

A BDDS team rushed to the mall and conducted a thorough check in the parking lot. All the cars parked in the lot were examined and sniffer dogs were also pressed into the service. Police conducted checks in the mall for more than 45 minutes and later announced that it was a hoax threat.
