Two die as car falls into gorge in Kalhatty Ghat road

Two persons were killed, and three others including two teenaged girls were injured when the car in which they were travelling fell into the gorge at the 36th hairpin bend on Kallatty Ghat Road on the Ooty-Mysore Road on Monday.

The police have identified the deceased as Sivananjayagowda (52), and Vasudeva (55) from Bengaluru.

They, along with T. Ramachandra (48), R. Nishitha (18), and V. Theja (19) have come to Udhagamandalam to attend the marriage of a relative.

The accident occurred while they were returning home after the function.

Ramachandra who was driving the vehicle lost control of the vehicle while negotiating the hairpin bend. All the injured have been admitted to a hospital in Coimbatore.

Case

The police have registered a case against Ramachandra under sections 304(A) (causing death by negligence), 279 (rash driving or riding on a public way), 337 (causing hurt by act endangering life or personal safety of others) and 338 (causing grievous hurt by act endangering life or personal safety of others) of the Indian Penal Code.
