Meeting of finance panel held

The Coimbatore regional meeting of the Fifth State Finance Commission was held here on Tuesday. Chairman S. Krishnan held the meeting with District Collectors of The Nilgiris, Coimbatore, Tiruppur and Erode; elected representatives; members of non-governmental organisations; civil society activists.

Member-Secretary Prashant M. Wadnere and members K. Bhaskaran and G. Prakash were present.

Mr. Krishnan told the meeting that the Commission that came into being on December 1, 2014, would take into consideration the financial health of the local bodies, and the State Government before making its recommendation on the State sharing its revenue with the local bodies.

It would also factor in the local bodies functioning in other States and their tax rate.

According to the Constitution and State laws, the term of the Commission was for five years and its recommendation would be valid for a the same period.
