We'll Pick Anti-graft Crusaders: Vaiko

Coimbatore: Hailing IAS officer U Sagayam as a ‘crusader’, the general secretary of Marumalarchi Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (MDMK), Vaiko, proclaimed that the Makkal Nala Kootani (MNK) would enlist the services of government officials of his stature to crack down on corruption, if voted to power in the upcoming state assembly poll.

“The alliance of parties that comprises the MNK has sent shockwaves across the political spectrum in Tamil Nadu. Considering the broad swath of support for our alliance, the DMK has already commenced groundwork to hinder our surge in the polls. We will form the government by overcoming all such obstacles and will implement our election manifesto as promised,” asserted Vaiko, while speaking to reporters at the Coimbatore International Airport on Friday morning.

When inquired about the Chief Ministerial candidate for the alliance, Vaiko remained tight-lipped. Keeping the media in suspense, he replied, “I won’t tell you. All I can say is that we will win the assembly election and work towards eradicating corruption and bringing about a liquor-free society.”

“We have already extended invitations to DMDK founder Vijayakant and TMC leader GK Vasan to join our alliance and we hope they would take up the offer,” he added.

He also accused the DMK of playing a double game with the agitating government staff and the differently-abled.

“Why didn’t the DMK raise its voice when the new pension scheme was implemented? Why did it fail to implement welfare schemes for the differently-abled while in power?” he questioned.

Also, he demanded the State government to make efforts to secure the release of the 10 Tuticorin natives who were arrested at Rangampettai checkpost in the state of Andhra Pradesh recently.
