BJP candidate Vanathi fails to cast vote

Caught in the frenzy of voting day, BJP's Vanathi Sreenivasan failed to vote. Despite running one of the most flamboyant campaigns in Coimbatore - complete with 3D telecasts atop vans a la her mentor Prime Minister Narendra Modi - Sreenivasan, the state vice-president for BJP, and the party's candidate for Coimbatore South, was so busy fire-fighting in her home state that she did not make it to RA Puram in Chennai on Monday to cast vote.

"There was violence in Coimbatore on Sunday and my supporters wanted me to stay back on Monday to handle the situation and keep things calm," said Sreenivasan.

"It was a painful decision for me to choose not to vote," she said, who adds that she even tried for a Monday afternoon flight to get her to Chennai, but 'it simply did not happen'. Guess the Election Commission's 100% vote target is already one short.
