DMK’s rule darkest period for Muslim community

Accusing DMK of working against the rights of minorities, particularly Muslims, the Indian Union Quaid E Milleth League (IUQML) today said that it would extend its support to AIADMK in the May 16 Assembly elections to safeguard its rights.

DMK, during its last tenure has come out with a law, by which 3.5 per cent was reserved for Muslims in Government jobs, instead of 3.2, IUQML President M.G. Dawood Miakhan, told reporters here.

However, after this law, even the reservation of 3.2 per cent was not available, thus putting the community in a tight spot, he alleged.

Similarly, another Act, by which registration of marriage was made compulsory, which was against the Muslim Law Shariat, was enacted, he said.

Though, Indian Union Muslim League, led by Khader Moideen and Manithaneya Makkal Katchi President, Prof. Jawahirulla supported the move stating that this would not affect the community, they had now started realising its effects and requested for an amendment, he said.

The DMK rule was the darkest period for the Muslim community, Miakhan, who is the grandson of veteran Muslim leader Quaid e-Milleth Mohammed Ismail, alleged.
