MGR magic still spins votes from Coimbatore weavers

DMK treasurer M K Stalin launched a two pronged attack on the AIADMK on Thursday by urging the Tamil Nadu governor to sack the state power minister Natham Viswanathan who is facing corruption charges. He alleged that the corruption money thus earned was now being used to bribe voters.

Welcoming the Madras HC's direction seeking a report from the Directorate of Vigilance and Anti - Corruption Bureau (DVAC) on allegations against Natham Viswanathan of receiving Rs525 crore kickback for signing power purchase agreements, Stalin sought a CBI probe into the issue alleging that that there was possibility of DVAC officials burying the truth. "This case is only a tip of the iceberg," Stalin said in a statement on Friday adding that not just the power ministry but there were equally big scams in every other department.

At a campaign stop in Coimbatore on Friday, Stalin said chief ministers of Madhya Pradesh, Karnakatka and Andhra Pradesh have come to meet industrialists of TN seeking to invest in their states. "Has the Tamil Nadu chief minister ever met industrialists here?'' he asked.

Stalin said that the much hyped global investors meet also failed to yield substantial investments. "Jayalalithaa said 98 agreements have been signed and Rs2.42 lakh crore investments would be made in Tamil Nadu. But it's been seven months since the investors meet was over. Not even a single unit has come up,'' he said.
