Reservation for transgenders in farm varsity

For the first time in its history, Tamil Nadu Agricultural University (TNAU) has reserved seats for transgenders, as per the norms set by the Central Government.

The seats will fall under MBC category. Transgender candidates have not yet applied, its Vice-Chancellor K. Ramasamy told reporters here today.

Ramasamy said that online application process for 13 science and technology degree programmes in 14 constituent colleges and 18 affiliated private colleges located throughout Tamil Nadu will begin on May 12 and the last date for submission for application is June 11.

The process of selection of candidates will begin with publication of rank list on June 20, counselling for sports, ex-servicemen and dependents of freedom fighters and differently-abled quota will be held on June 27 and 28, he said.

There are 2,600 seats with 1,220 in constituent colleges and 1,380 in affiliated colleges. Allotment will be based on 65 per cent counselling and 35 per cent management quota, he said.

Ten seats in each degree programme will be reserved for candidates sponsored by agro-based industries and NRIs, he said.

Under special reservations, 18 seats are reserved for differently-abled, including transgender, six for ex-servicemen, four for eminent sports persons and one for freedom fighter in B.Sc. Agri.
