AIADMK writes to EC on DMK ads

The ruling AIADMK has made a representation to the Chief Electoral Officer to stop airing of advertisements being telecast in certain private channels criticising AIADMK general secretary Jayalalithaa with the caption ' Sonneengale, Senjeengala' (You promised, did you deliver?).

According to the representation by State Joint Secretary of AIADMK’s Legal Wing V.R. Thirunarayanan, such advertisements were being telecast to “tarnish the image” of the party and Chief Minister Jayalalithaa.

The advertisements were in gross violation of the election and advertisement codes, it claimed.

Claiming that the advertisements telecast by the political party with newspaper clippings showing the Chief Minister's picture and speech under the caption ' Sonneengale, Senjeengala' were not in conformity with the prescribed advertisement code, the representation asked the Election Commission to intervene.

When asked for reaction, Chief Electoral Officer Rajesh Lakhoni said that he would ask the Media Certification and Monitoring Committee consisting of Joint Chief Electoral Officer - Systematic Voters' Education and Electoral Participation and other independent members to examine it.
